Lotheren Sea Guard

Hope you've had a good Easter break, with the spare time I had I managed to finished another Sea Guard today, as well as getting some work done on a fantasy troll. Not exactly sure what I'll use him for yet, either storm of magic or eBay, I'll guess time will tell. Any way invested a bit of time into the camera today and the pictures were a lot better, and whats more I know why now so it's looking good for the future.

I'm hoping to use the elves in a game on Wednesday, it'll only be a 1000 points but I don't get a chance to play very often so I'm looking forward to it.

The troll is only in very early W.I.P. stages with a maximum of a couple of layers on a part.

Finished War Walker and High Elves

So as I said last time the reason for a severe lack of posts was among a number of things working on too many projects at once. But through a great length of time mostly I managed to get the War Walker finished. I did have more pictures of it but the camera after running out of battery decided to misbehave even more so I'm left with 2. Click on pictures for a larger image and comments and criticism welcome as normal.

I usually run in a pair as shown because at 50 points each scout, a scatter laser and a shruiken cannon that's a lot of very manoeuvrable firepower at a very reasonable price tag. Even though they are only toughness 10 in the admittedly few games I have played with them they have survived quite well whilst always making up at least double their points back.

One of the other projects I've been working on is my high elf spear men. Even though they were already painted I've basically repainted them as before they looked quite boring and without any technical skill. I've kept to the same colour scheme and because my skills have improved it still takes me the same amount of time to paint them even though I'm doing three times as much.

I did have pictures of all five but once again the camera had the final say and so only these two will be posted in the meantime.

How to Paint Night Goblins

Because I'm a bit obsessed with Goblins at the moment I thought I would do a Tutorial on how to paint them, so here goes. I do the three main parts stage by stage at the same time and then I finish all the little details seperately.

1.Robes
  • Base coat with Chaos Black
  • Layer with a mix of Chaos Black and Codex Grey 1:1
  • Wash heavily with Badab black
  • Edge high light with Codex Grey
2. Hood
  • Base coat with Denheb stone
  • Wash with Devlan Mud wash
  • Layer with Commando Kakhi
  • Edge High light with Bleached Bone
3. Skin
  • Base coat with Knarloc Green
  • Wahs heabily with Thraka Green
  • Layer with Goblin Green
  • Wash the nose with Baal Red
  • Edge high light the skin with a mix of Goblin Green, Golden Yellow and Bleached Bone 1:1:1
Other Details

Red eg. Spear Shafts, bows
  • Base coat Scab Red
  • Layer Blood Red
  • High light Blazing Orange
  • High light Vermin Brown
Brown eg. Leather
  • Base coat Scorched Brown
  • Layer Bestial Brown
  • Wash Devlan Mud
  • High light Snakebite leather

So it ends up looking like this when I have basecoated the three important parts.

And then once I've added all the details and finished the washes and highlights it looks like this.

Note : I usually just dot the eyes scab red and the teeth with denheb stone.
